Charles Sankey, Age 25
Private, 34010, 6th Battalion, King's Shropshire Light Infantry.
Charles was the son of Richard and Sarah Elizabeth Sankey of 7 Sandy Bank, Doseley.
He was serving with ‘D’ company of the 6th Battalion KSLI trying to stem the German advance in the spring of 1918 during the Battle for St Quentin when he met his death on the 24th March.
Charles was originally reported as missing in action between the 21st and 26th of March and an appeal for information about him appeared in the Journal sent in by a Miss Fowler of Holywell Lane, Dawley. Charles body was never found and his name is on the Pozieres memorial to the missing on panel 60.
Miss Fowler may have been Edith Fowler of 2, Holywell Lane, Dawley, Salop. She would have been aged 20 in 1918.
